Nano Art

When Magnetism meets NanoArt !

What is NanoArt ?

NanoArt is art discipline at the art-science-technology intersections. It features nanolandscapes. These structures are visualized with research tools and their scientific images are captured and further processed by using different artistic techniques to convert them into artworks showcased for large audiences. The way the images are captured in NanoArt sets this imaging process apart from Photography where images are created by photons (particles of light).

This definition is mostly inspired from the Wikipedia one.

In the proposed exhibition most of the images are taken with near field microscopes such as atomic force microscope or magnetic force microscopes.

About the author-artist

Daniel Lacour is a condensed mater physicist. After a Phd (1999-2002) dedicated to the tunnel magneto-resistance and its applications (done in close collaboration between Université de Lorraine and the laboratory of A. Fert (the 2007 Nobel prize winner).

He worked as postdoctoral fellow at the Hitachi GST laboratory of San Jose CA (2003-2005). During this period he studied magnetic nano-devices and learned atomic force and magnetic force microscopy. In 2006 he was appointed to the CNRS as research staff member in the nano-magnetism and spintronic team of the Jean Lamour Institut.

His field of expertise addresses Spintronic and Nano-magnetism. Taking profit of the fundamental knowledge he has acquired on the behavior of magnetic materials at the micro nanos/scale D. Lacour spent a part of his time research time on the development of sensors having a working principle based on magnetic material.

Daniel Lacour lives in Nancy and is the happy father of family of seven.
